THE ASSOCIATION OF BRITISH DRIVERS
IN SCOTLAND
The ABD in Scotland has submitted, by invitation, our comments to the Parliamentary Groups who are examining the case for and against tramways being used in Edinburgh. At the present time there are two immediately proposed tramway lines hence two separate and distinctive reports submitted. In both cases these reports were compiled by Bruce Young who has distinguished himself by so readily picking up the reins so ably following on from the unexpected death of his predecessor Dr Alan Werninck Click to view our report on Line One. Click here to view the report on Line Two.
Subsequent to these intial submissions the ABD as represented by Bruce Young made additional submission on Line One and Line Two.
Bruce Young, now our East of Scotland Area Coordiator, some time ago attended various talks and meetings regarding the proposed tram routes compiled a detailed study of the current position and has also given an educated appraisal of the probable way that the tramway "system" will actually develop. He is of the opinion that only one of the three lines will ever be built and he explains why in a clear and concise manner. We know that some of our politicians do log on to our website now and again - so if you are a politician or, God forbid, even an Edinburgh Council Member - if you do nothing else ever to justify your keep - PLEASE READ THIS!! View Bruce's report here.
A black day for Edinburgh and Scotland as in all likelihood we will get left footing the bill!! Friday 23rd April 2004 is when TIE signed up with a French firm to build their tramway system - the day after the National Audit Office made disparaging remarks about tramways and profitability. Read the original National Audit Office report entitled "Improving Public Transport in England through Light Rail." This was put into the public domain by the National Audit Office as a PDF file and may readily be viewed on this site.
As the farce continues, with congestion, chaos and delay, Bruce has yet another look at the situation apparent in the spring of 2009. It doesn't get any better!! View his most recent personal "take" on the trams here
