ABERDEEN BUS LANE CAMERAS

Our taxes are being used to fund Aberdeen's bus lane cameras (Evening Express, Aug 23) and subsidise public transport, even though many of us won't use public transport or be able to use the bus lanes.

Motorists pay billions in tax each year and receive substandard and inadequate roads in return. Public transport companies get a much better deal.

If we are all expected to bankroll bus lane cameras, then it is only right that everyone should benefit - motorists included.

It's about time car sharing drivers carrying at least one passenger were allowed to use the bus lanes all day. Queues of traffic would be reduced for all drivers and the increased traffic in the bus lane would surely not affect bus times significantly when compared with the obvious benefits to all road users.

If the video based cameras aren't capable of identifying car sharers, then the system shouldn't be implemented.

A system paid for by the majority, but used to the benefit of the minority is undemocratic and unacceptable in my view.
